Several arrests for public drunkenness were made over the weekend.
Officers responded to a report of a man laying beside the road on Old Knoxville Highway Saturday night. Around 10:00 PM, officers located the man and identified him as Eric Banks of Mosheim. According to the report, Banks admitted to drinking, was unsteady on his feet and had a strong odor of alcohol about him. He was placed under arrest for his own protection for Public Intoxication.
Around 1:30 this morning, police noticed a man walking through the parking lot at the 1600 block of East Andrew Johnson Highway. When officers spoke with him, his speech was reportedly slurred, he appeared unsteady on his feet, and had a strong odor of alcohol. The man, identified as Tony Melton of Cicero Avenue, was charged with Public Intoxication and transported to jail.
