Fire damaged a house just off the Newport Highway early Saturday morning, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies arrived at the home at 55 Dearstone Lane around 8:15 Saturday morning and saw smoke pouring from under the eaves of the roof of the residence, along with the front right bedroom window.
A resident said that she noticed a burning rubber smell throughout the home, but was unable to locate it. She returned to her bedroom and saw open flames coming from the wall near an outlet, and called 911. The victim, along with her brother and daughter, were able to escape before fire personnel arrived.
Among the local volunteer fire departments on scene were Caney Branch, Orebank, Debusk, Mosheim and Town of Mosheim along with the Greeneville Energy Authority, EMS, and the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.
A damage estimate to the home, which is valued at $200,000, was unable to be made due to the large amount of water needed to extinguish the fire.
