UPDATE: The pedestrian has been identified by the Tennessee Highway Patrol as 34-year-old Coty Stout of North Carolina.
A pedestrian was struck and killed on the Newport Highway early Monday morning.
The accident happened just after 3:30 AM just past the Pates Lane intersection. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a vehicle driven by Charles Shropshire crested the top of a hill at 4955 Newport Highway. A pedestrian was reportedly walking in the middle of the road on the double yellow line and was struck by Shropshire’s vehicle. Shropshire was charged with driving on a suspended license, driving with a swapped tag, and driving with no insurance.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol said the pedestrian is still in the process of being identified.
