A barn on Shackleford Road was destroyed by fire Monday night.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Department responded around 11:00 PM to the 500 block of Shackleford Road and the barn was completely burned. Upon their arrival, the Orebank Volunteer Fire Department had extinguished the fire.
The complainant said she was driving by and saw hay bales in the barn on fire. She called 911 and stopped at a nearby house to try to notify the property owners. A second passerby noticed the fire shortly after and the barn was fully engulfed in flames at that time.
The victim was notified and arrived on the scene. He said there were several pieces of farm equipment inside and approximately 200 hay bales. He said no one has worked in the barn recently and there is no electricity running to it. The barn and contents were valued at $83,500.
