Greene County Road Superintendent Kevin Swatsell updated local Greene County Republican Party members on road and bridge improvements around the area Monday night.
Swatsell says he’s optimistic about financial support the county is beginning to get from other agencies.
A contract was signed with NRCS Monday afternoon which will allow work to officially begin on streambank stabilization at Pates Hill and other areas.
While some projects may appear to be moving slower than others, Swatsell explained that some work is not allowed to start until funding is in place , such as the NRCS contract approved Monday.
A FEMA refund, once it is sent to the county and permits are approved, will cover 75% of what was spent locally to continue rehab, repair and reopening of Birds Bridge and other damaged roads and bridges.
Swatsell thanked State Representative David Hawk publicly for “hand delivering” necessary paperwork to Nashville to speed up the process of getting the 465 foot long Easterly Bridge project moving forward.
Swatsell told those in attendance he believes the county is making positive strides toward recovering from the disaster, and thanked those in his department for their efforts.
