A woman from Light Street in Greeneville reported Wednesday she was scammed by someone on Facebook who told her she’d be receiving $300,000 and a Porsche.
According to the report, the victim spoke with the alleged suspect named Julie Leach on Facebook who stated she recently won a large sum of money and was selecting people to give back to. The victim was told she was chosen to receive $300,000 and a Porsche car but she would first need to send the suspect $500 as a transaction fee.
After some time, the victim reportedly sent $1,100 through Chime and was supposed receive the vehicle and money via fed-ex the next day. The victim later got a message from the suspect who said the fed-ex truck caught on fire and the driver died. The victim then noticed all of her funds were withdrawn from her checking account through Chime.
She was advised by the Greeneville Police Department to contact the bank regarding fraudulent activity and to not accept any offers for receiving money on Facebook.
