Two Quillen Shell Road residents were reportedly scammed out of money while attempting to buy a dog on Facebook.
The victims told the Greene County Sheriff’s Department they messaged the suspect Tuesday morning about a puppy listed for sale on Facebook. The suspect would not accept cash for the transaction and wanted either a prepaid card or money sent through PayPal. A $60 prepaid gift card was sent to the suspect, along with $100 via PayPal.
The suspect gave an address of a Dollar General in White Pine to meet Tuesday and pick up the dog. However, the suspect never arrived at the store and has stopped communicating with the victims.
