A Greeneville man was charged with identity theft following a traffic stop on Tuesday morning.
A vehicle was stopped at the West Church and North Main Street intersection after the driver was seen running a red light.
A passenger in the car was asked if he had any identification on him. The man said he did not and gave a false name and birthdate.
An ID found in the car identified the man as Douglas Nicely of South Cutler Street. He was shown to have a violation of probation warrant out of Greene County. Nicely said he thought he was a fugitive from justice out of Wisconsin. The police report did not indicate if Nicely had a warrant out of any other state.
Nicely was transported to the Greene County Detention Center. In addition to his outstanding warrant, he was charged with identity theft due to the fake name and birthdate he gave belonging to a real person he is associated with.
