Greeneville City Council will consider the purchase of a traffic signal along the East Andrew Johnson Highway when it meets this afternoon.
The signal would be placed at the intersection with Serral Drive, just west of the light at Walmart, and approval by City Council would help the developer of the retail project secure tenants.
City Administration Todd Smith said in a memo to Council members that the estimated total cost of installation of the signal would not exceed $350,000. Among the benefits of approval would be a quicker installation time for the signal, while among the negatives would be that private developers have previously paid for traffic signal installations along 11-E.
The Town of Greeneville will also consider a proposal to conduct a traffic study along 11-E from Rufe Taylor Road to Walmart, along with several side streets that feed into the bypass. The study, which would include data collection, a signal warrant analysis and a report, would cost $57,000.
Also on the agenda are several special event applications, along with the purchase and installation of flooring at the Eastview Rec Center at a cost of $225,000.
The Beer Board will also meet to consider an application for a special event permit for the GM Truck Fair on October 7. The Truck Fair will be held that day at the Fairgrounds, with the after party featuring live music and beer and food vendors along West Depot Street.
Greeneville City Council will meet at 4 p.m. in the G. Thomas Love Boardroom at the Greeneville Energy Authority.
