The Greene County Commission will meet this evening and plan on discussing a 17-cent decrease in the new Greene County property tax rate, setting the tax levy at $1.48 instead of $1.65.
The resolution sponsored by Commissioners Larkin Clemmer, Chase Murray, and Lyle Parton, says the new tax rate would generate approximately $4.35M. With the property tax rate that passed in July the tax increase was raising around $7.9M. The resolution also calls for moving $2 of the Wheel Tax to Volunteer Fire Departments.
On the agenda is also a resolution to appropriate almost $334,000 in Opioid Settlement funds from the 2021 Opioid Abatement Council Act. After consideration, the Budget and Finance committee recommended the Funds be spilt between the Greene County Drug Coalition, Greene County Drug Court, the Law Enforcement Against Drugs and Violence Program (LEAD), and Frontier Mental Health.
Additionally, the commission will have a public hearing regarding the rezoning of a property within unincorporated territory in Greene County, will consider adding Mountain View Lane into the County Road List as well as additional tax relief for Low-Income Elderly homeowners.
Furthermore, Becky Rideout will be appointed to the Greene County Regional Planning Commission to serve in place of Kristin Girton, who stepped off recently. The commission meeting is at 6 PM this evening in the Greene County Courthouse Criminal Courtroom.
