Over 5″ of rain since Wednesday night has pushed back the first full day of classes in both the Greeneville and Greene County School systems.
Greene County Director of Schools David McLain said that due to many roads being covered with water, the County system will delay opening until Monday, August 7. McLain also said that water got into South Greene Middle, Doak, Mosheim, and McDonald schools. ESP will be open at the regular locations.
Director of Greeneville City Schools Steve Starnes announced that due to the substantial amount of rain, several debris covered roadways, and potential for continued flooding overnight, Greeneville City Schools will be closed on Friday, August 4th as well. Central Office will work remotely. The first day of school has changed to Monday, August 7th.
A variety of other areas in Greene County were flooded yesterday. According to the National Weather Service in Morristown, effects from the flooding could continue into the weekend. Stay tuned to these Radio Greeneville Stations for the Weather Updates.
