A man was scammed by someone claiming to be Apple Inc®.
The victim stated that a few days ago, his account was showing that he made a purchase that he didn’t make.
He told police yesterday he was setting up a new iPhone when a fake message from Apple security popped up stating that his debit card had been used by someone else to purchase $8,000 worth of Child Sexual Abuse Material and that he was required to buy gift cards of the same amount.
If you receive any notification from a business requesting payment in the form of gift cards, it is a scam.
According to the Federal trade commission, no legitimate business will request payment via gift card. If you think you are being or have been scammed, contact the federal trade commission at 877-FTC-HELP or see their link of resources.
