Two people were charged following a traffic stop early Thursday morning.
A vehicle was stopped on North College Street around 2:15 AM for expired registration. The driver, Terry Dean of Newport Highway, admitted he had a suspended license and could not provide proof of insurance for the car.
A search of the vehicle produced a glass pipe and a set of scales with drug residue. A purse, belonging to passenger Beth Weeks of Mountain View Drive, was in the car with a loaded syringe, a burnt glass pipe stem, a torch lighter, and seven hydrocodone pills inside. Dean claimed ownership of the pills and said a friend gave them to him.
Dean was charged with simple possession of a schedule 2 drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license, violation of financial responsibility, and expired registration. Weeks was issued a criminal summons to appear in court for possession of drug paraphernalia.
