Local and state law enforcement agencies are joining prosecutors, state legislators, and accident victims to host a press conference June 29th on impaired driver and boat operator crimes.
As of July 1, 2023, Boating Under the Influence (BUI) will have the same penalties, fines, and punishments as DUI. The updated law will require jail time, fines, and the loss of boat operating privileges if convicted, making prosecution of these crimes very familiar to prosecutors across the state. Drunk boat operators become drunk drivers as they leave the waterway and head home on the highway putting themselves and other boaters and motorists in danger. The press conference will also address updates to the Boating Under the Influence section of TCA code.
Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is participating in Operation Dry Water from June 30 – July 2, which is a campaign focused on BUI education, awareness, and enforcement. The Press Conference will be at Volunteer Landing in Knoxville June 29th at 10 AM.
