Further details are available on two wrecks that resulted in a portion of Interstate 81 northbound being closed overnight.
The first accident occurred around 12:30 AM around mile marker 27. A Chevrolet Equinox driven by 24-year-old Adrianna Beard hydroplaned and the vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway into the median, striking multiple trees. Beard was injured and transported to the Johnson City Medical Center.
The second accident occurred shortly before 1:30 AM at mile marker 26.6 northbound. A tanker transporting gasoline, driven by 61-year-old Allen Wagner of Virginia, merged with traffic to the right due to the accident involving Beard. A tractor-trailer driven by 53-year-old Figueroa German of Illinois was in that lane and struck the tanker in the rear. The tractor-trailer then crossed the center and went into the median. German was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center, while Wagner was not injured in the wreck.
The Mosheim and Town of Mosheim Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene, along with EMS, Rescue Squad, Greene County Hazmat, the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
