A barn at 595 John Bird Road was destroyed by fire on Wednesday afternoon.
Deputies with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department responded around 4:45 PM. The owner of the barn told deputies that there were over 1,000 tobacco sticks, hay, an antique boat, and some lumber inside.
A witness told deputies that prior to the barn burning, there was an older gray car that was parked in front of it. Some people were also seen standing at the mailbox close to the barn prior to it burning.
A firefighter on the scene told deputies that upon the fire department’s arrival, the barn was burned to the ground and there appeared to be a trail of hay behind it.
The barn was valued at $20,000 in the report filed with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, with its contents listed at $6,300.
