A Greeneville Man was charged with Child Neglect after police charged him with DUI and found a handgun in the vehicle with children present.
Around 9:00 PM Saturday, officers noticed a Ram 1500 truck swerve from the fog line to the center line on East Andrew Johnson Highway. The driver pulled over for the officer to pass and then continued onto Housely Avenue where the officer got behind him again. The truck stopped at the intersection at Bohannon Avenue and the officers parked behind him. The driver then got out of the truck and approached the police car.
According to the report, the man was identified as Jamison Broyles of Sunnyside Loop, and had a strong odor of alcohol on him. Broyles did allegedly admit to drinking and performed poorly on Standardized Field Sobriety tests. Jamison informed the officers he had a 9mm handgun in the center console of his truck, according to the report. Two children, ages 5 and 3, were in the back of vehicle, and police contacted a family member who came to the scene to pick up the children.
During a tow inventory of the vehicle, 7 vials of various types of steroids were also discovered. Jamison was charged with Driving Under the Influence, Possession of a Handgun while Intoxicated, two counts of Felony Child Neglect, and possession of a Schedule 3 drug.
