An overturned vehicle on I-81 South bound near the ten mile marker in Hamblen County around 12:20 am created problems for the next several hours.
According to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report, a Freightliner tractor trailer was traveling northbound in the inside lane on I-81 North, when if left the roadway, drove into a ditch, crossed the median, and overturned. The vehicle came to final rest on its roof partially blocking the inside southbound lane of I-81 South, causing the traffic backup.
Motorists were rerouted to alternate routes and allowed to pass along the shoulder while the accident investigation and cleanup continued.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol reported indicated the lone occupant, driver 57 year old Eric Curtis of Georgia was injured, but a condition update was not listed on the report.
