After finishing 27th as a freshman last year, Trey Bailey had a goal of making all-state as a sophomore. On Thursday afternoon, he had the opportunity to make that goal come to fruition as he and his teammates competed in the TSSAA Division 1-A/AA state cross country meet in Hendersonville.
As the boys got the meet underway, the front group stayed packed together throughout the first portion of the race. This caused a back-log at the 1-mile mark, where Bailey took a spill and was accidentally spiked by a runner. He would recover, rejoin the front group, and finish the race in 15 minutes 53.06 seconds,10 seconds behind race winner Jaden Hillis.
Bailey, who finished 3rd, along with Jules Richard (39th), Grant Tunnell (53rd), Isaac Gibson (74th), and Kaden Savent (134th) pushed the Greene Devils to a 7th place finish.
Darla Kammerdiener brought home a 78th finish for the Lady Devils finishing the state meet in 22 minutes 24.39 seconds.
