The Greene County Commission will meet this afternoon beginning at 5:30 PM. There will be a Public Hearing on the proposed 2024-2025 Greene County FY Budget from 5:30 until 6 PM in the Greene County Courthouse, top floor courtroom.
During the regular scheduled meeting the commission will discuss amending the Zoning Resolution to regulate short-term rentals within the unincorporated territory of Greene County. According to the resolution, existing regulations do not specifically regulate short term rentals, which is considered transient housing, different from traditional visitor lodging such as hotels, motels, campgrounds, and RV parks.
Because of the rapid increase in the number of short terms rentals, it could potentially create a negative impact in areas of Greene County, as well as a negative experience for visitors. A proposal was submitted to and studied by the Greene County Regional Planning Commission. The discussion on the matter will continue this evening.
Also to be considered is the resolution adapting an Emergency Moratorium on Campgrounds/RV Parks. Due to concerns from several citizens regarding the zoning ordinance and because of the questioning of the provisions, a temporary moratorium on the processing of future applications for permits to campgrounds/RV parks was requested. This will allow the planning commission time to study and do further research for uses permitted in the county.
Furthermore, several proclamations are planned for the evening including a Proclamation for Great Outdoors Month, Tennessee Beef Month, for July 2024, a Joint Proclamation for Gifts for Kids Christmas in July 2024, and a Proclamation for Korean War Veterans Day, July 27, 2024.
