A man was arrested yesterday after it was reported he might have stolen possibly over $7,000 worth of scrap metal.
According to the report, the complainant, acting Manager from a business on 199 Pottertown Road in Midway, stated he was missing copper scrap metal worth between $7,000 and $10,000. He said he believed a previous employee, Travas Wilhoit of Greeneville, stole it as he was seen that morning around 5 AM with a forklift. Wilhoit was reportedly driving it outside toward the scrap metal.
Deputies responded to the alleged suspects address and found a man burning copper wire, Wilhoit was inside a trailer. Wilhoit did later admit he went into the business and took the forklift but stated he was told he could take it. Boxes filled with copper wire were also allegedly seen in the back yard with the business name written on it.
Wilhoit was charged with theft over $2,500.
