GREENEVILLE, Tennessee – On Tuesday, Dec. 2, Greene LEAF, the foundation for Greene County Schools, will participate in the local Give Greene campaign to raise funds for technology and literacy programs for the Greene County School System.

According to Suzanne Richey, Greene LEAF executive director, “Thanks to some generous folks, all donations to Greene LEAF (marked “Give Greene”) will be doubled through December 15.”  Give Greene, a local component of the national Giving Tuesday program, is set for Dec 3. Greene LEAF is asking Greene County residents to consider making a gift during this time at greeneleaf.org.  She added, the students in the Greene County Schools will benefit from all funds raised. By donating to the fundraiser through the Give Greene campaign (December 2), donors can ensure current and future students have the technology in the classroom that they need to succeed and help keep the mobile libraries – the Magic Book Busses – on the road.

Over the years, Greene LEAF has purchased more than $800,000 worth of computers directly used by Greene County students.  They have also supported the Magic Book Bus programs and provided materials and equipment for arts programs at all Greene County schools.  “This is just a start. To get to where we need to be,” said Richey. “Greene LEAF is seeking to raise an additional $40,000 by the end of the year.”

All donations will support programs of Greene LEAF:

$216 will provide a student with a computer.
$75 will buy 25 books for the Magic Book Bus
A gift in any amount will help toward the ultimate goal.

Anyone who would prefer not to give online, may call (423.823.0732) or email ([email protected]) or mail to P.O. Box 1253, Greeneville, TN 37744.

Greene LEAF is a nonprofit organization developed by community leaders to bridge the gap of funding for materials and programming not supplied by government organizations.  The organization’s mission is to serve as an advocate for creating a premier educational environment for the students of Greene County through raising funds for literacy programs, arts education, and technology initiatives.

For more information or to find out how to support the Greene LEAF and the Greene County Schools, contact Suzanne Richey, executive director of Greene LEAF, at [email protected] or visit www.greeneleaf.org.
