Greeneville Energy Authority Broadband Director Phillip Bradley told GEA Board members Thursday BEAD Grants to be used to further develop county wide have moved a step closer to approval.
Contracts will probably not be approved until spring 2026.
But in the meantime, work continues toward being better able to serve broadband customers.
The board approved changes in the residential internet plan. The price for 2000 x 2000 mbps will remain the same but the speed will increase from one to two gbs. The 10000 x 10000 mpbs will remain the same but the speed increase will go from 2.5 to 10 gbs, which will make it one of the cheapest price points in the state for the $120 per month rate.
The purchase of IPv4 addresses ahead of an anticipated price increase was approved, purchasing enough to account for anticipated needs moving forward.
