The Greene County Board of Education met for twenty minutes in called session Thursday afternoon to address three agenda items needing action prior to the next regular board meeting in December.
COSMETOLOGY EQUIPMENT PURCHASE
The board approved the bid for additional cosmetology equipment for the soon to be completed CTE additions.
NON-FACULTY COACHES AND VOLUNTEERS
The board approved a list of seven Non-Faculty/Volunteer coaches, including the first ever Lacrosse coaches for the new program at South Greene. Austin Wallace will be the Head Coach.
Wallace, from Manchester, New Hampshire, played Lacrosse for Tusculum University.
Damico Cameron will serve as Assistant Coach. He also played at Tusculum and is a coach with the Greeneville Lacrosse Club.

CHRISTMAS BONUS GUIDELINES
As a book keeping matter, verbiage in the Christmas bonuses approved at the October meeting of the board was adjusted to read as follows:
“All Certified staff, including the Director of Schools, and Classified staff, employed on November 28, 2025, will receive a $1,000 Christmas bonus.”
Although a firm date is not yet set, the Director of Schools is hopeful those bonuses will be issued the first week of December.
SCHOOL BOARD PAY
Although not discussed at the School Board meeting Thursday, the increase in pay for school board meetings and committee meetings was approved by the Greene County Budget and Finance Committee during their meeting on Wednesday. School Board members at the October meeting, voted themselves a raise, which will pay them each $300 for school board meetings and $150 for committee meetings. That amount is the same paid to Greene County commissioners. Previously rates have been $200 and $100 for school board and committee meetings respectively.
SCHOOL DISMISSAL TRAFFIC
School board member Minnie Banks voiced safety concerns related to school dismissal traffic, especially early arrivals of waiting parents while school is still in session. Banks represents the Camp Creek and South Greene Middle School areas, which Director of Schools Dr. Chris Malone admits are the most troublesome areas for navigation of traffic. While no system wide rules are in place as it pertains to when traffic waiting to pick up students can begin arriving, he says the individual schools have their own plans in place in an attempt to help lessen the congestion during that time of day. School system personnel continue to evaluate any possible adjustments.

NEXT MEETING
There will be no regular School Board meeting in November. The next scheduled meeting will be Thursday, December 4 at 5:30 pm at the James W. Parham Central Office Complex.
