Donna Ricker, a Greene County educator, has been selected as one of this year’s Tennessee Early Educators of the Year. The statewide program recognizes outstanding teachers who work with young children, honoring five in the Birth through Preschool category and five in the Kindergarten through Third Grade category.
To be eligible, teachers must:

Be employed full-time in Tennessee

Work with children from birth through preschool in a regulated center, family child care home, or school-based program or teach grades K–3 in a state-accredited public or charter school

Have at least three years of experience in early childhood education

Demonstrate a passion for teaching, a love for children, and strong, respectful relationships with parents and families
Nominees are evaluated through an expert panel review, interviews, and references.
Each winner receives a $1,000 cash prize, a Lakeshore Learning shopping spree, and an all-expenses-paid trip to Nashville.
Ricker’s recognition as Tennessee Early Educator of the Year is a significant achievement that shines a spotlight on her work in Greene County and the vital role early educators play in shaping the foundation for student success.
