One year and two days after flooding from Hurricane Helene swelled the Nolichucky River to devastating effectsin Greene County, local officials are inviting the public to convene downtown at the Greene County Courthouse tonight for a remembrance ceremony to be held from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
The event will be emceed by Ron Metcalfe, whose voice from WGRV/Radio Greeneville was crucial in keeping thousands informed during and after the flooding, and features remarks from community leaders, a moment to remember the life of Boone McCrary, and first responder vehicles activating sirens in unison at 6:33 p.m. to recognize the moment the Kinser Bridge was lost.
There is no cost to attend, and all are welcome. This gathering offers a moment to reflect on the losses and stand united in recognition of the resilience and strength the community has shown since that day.
