After three consecutive months of steady unemployment rates, the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development reported Thursday afternoon that the state’s unemployment rate increased slightly in July.
The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for July was 3.6 percent, up slightly from 3.5 percent in June. Over the past month, nonfarm employment decreased statewide by 900 jobs.
Tennessee’s rate a year ago was 3.4 percent. Employers across the state added 21,500 nonfarm jobs during the past year.
The national unemployment rate for July was 4.2 percent, up slightly from 4.1 percent in June.
County unemployment data will be released next week.
