An Afton man is facing several charges related to an incident Saturday which began with him chasing a vehicle from Horse Creek to Tusculum, then Tusculum Police pursuing him.
A Greene County Sheriff’s Department report says a couple was pulling into Horse Creek Park for a picnic Saturday afternoon when a vehicle approached them. The two attempted to leave but the vehicle started following them, later driving around them then blocking their path. They were able to get around the car, which continued to follow them on the Erwin Highway at high speeds for several miles. As they approached the Tusculum Bypass, Tusculum Police were on the scene and attempted to stop the car which continued at high speeds until it was last seen passing Rheatown Road. Investigation led to the identity of the man as Jean C. Kast of John Bird Road, Afton.
Around 5:30 that afternoon, Kast was seen walking along the roadway. He was held at gunpoint as deputies had been told he had a firearm. Kast confirmed he did have a gun in his backpack, which was located. He was then taken into custody on charges of four counts of reckless endangerment, failure to exercise due caution, four counts of aggravated assault, reckless driving and driving on a suspended license first offense.
