It appeared in February that the company cleaning up and transporting Nolachucky River debris from the September flooding would repair roads damaged by their vehicles. That apparently will not happen, and now the question for local officials is, who will.
Mayor Kevin Morrison said in February he had been assured Phillips and Jordon would help out with the repair of the roads such as Mt. Hebron and others which have been damaged by the vehicles used to transport the debris. However, Morrison said he became concerned during a TEMA public meeting at the squad building when told by two representatives of the business that they were not in the road building business.
Morrison said today he is hopeful of finding a financial fix to the road work, possibly through the state contracting with TDOT.
Some repair work has been done over the past few months to repair, if only temporarily, some of the damaged roads. But only after the cleanup is complete and the heavy trucks have left the area, will the roads be restored to their post-flood condition.
