Greenfield 49, Van Buren 46
Rayanna Fisher scored 14 points, including the go-ahead layup with 54 seconds remaining, as Greenfield rallied to defeat Van Buren 49-46 in the Class 1A state championship game. The Lady Yellowjackets (30-6) trailed for over 21 minutes of game time but surged ahead in the final quarter, outscoring Van Buren 14-9 in the decisive period. Greenfield’s Fisher, named tournament MVP, stole the ball and converted a fast-break layup with 54 seconds remaining to give Greenfield a 47-46 lead. Fisher then sealed the championship with two free throws, capping Greenfield’s remarkable comeback. Teammates Jayleigh Bowers added 13 points and Ella Porter and AnnaGrace Abernathy contributed 10 points each. Van Buren (28-7) was led by Abigail Netherton’s 20 points and Cara Mills’ dominant inside presence with 17 points and 13 rebounds, but couldn’t overcome Greenfield’s balanced attack and stifling fourth-quarter defense that limited them to just 17 points in the entire second half. Despite being outrebounded 34-22, Greenfield found ways to stay competitive through balanced scoring and ball security. The Lady Yellowjackets committed only 6 turnovers while forcing 16 from Van Buren, resulting in a 14-5 advantage in points off turnovers.
CLASS 2A Championship
Westview 44, York Institute 38
Maddie Gray scored 18 points, including a decisive three-point play with 51 seconds remaining, to lead Westview to a 44-38 victory over York Institute in the Class 2A state championship game Saturday at Murphy Center. Westview started strong, reaching intermission with a 20-12 lead. York Institute mounted an impressive comeback in the third quarter, outscoring Westview 16-8 to tie the game at 28-28 heading into the final period. Trailing 38-34 with under three minutes to play, Westview closed the game on a 10-0 run sparked by Halle Trevathan’s three-pointer and capped by clutch free throws from Trevathan and McCall Sims. York Institute, which got 15 points from Makenna Beaty and 7 rebounds from Emma Cooper, had stormed back from an eight-point halftime deficit to take a four-point lead late in the fourth quarter. Raylee Werner added 11 points for York, while Gray earned tournament MVP honors as Westview (33-1) captured the state title.
CLASS 3A Championship
Heritage 63, Northview Academy 43
Heritage captured the Class 3A state championship with a convincing 63-43 victory over Northview Academy on Saturday afternoon at Murphy Center. The game was competitive early, with Northview holding a narrow 14-15 advantage after the first stanza. Heritage used a dominant 21-9 second quarter run to build a 13-point halftime advantage. Northview Academy showed resilience with a 10-2 third quarter surge to trim the deficit to five points, but Heritage responded with a decisive 25-10 fourth quarter performance to secure the title. Katelyn Graves led the champions with 17 points, including perfect 8-for-8 free throw shooting, while tournament MVP Chloe Heath contributed 13 points and 16 rebounds. Jordan White paced Northview Academy with 18 points. Heath dominated the glass with a game-high 16 rebounds for Heritage, while Natavia Alber collected 10 rebounds for Northview Academy. Heath also contributed 3 blocks, helping Heritage establish a strong defensive presence. Camryn Brown added 11 points for Northview Academy in the losing effort. Heritage, who shot 41% from the field and 73% from the free throw line, finishes their championship season with a 35-2 record, while Northview Academy ends at 33-5.
