The Greene County Board of Education has removed the interim tag from Dr. Chris Malone and named him the new Director of Greene County Schools, effective immediately.
Originally, the Board planned to interview candidates for the job following the application deadline.
Malone however, was the only applicant for the job.
Plans were for the new Director of Schools to take over July 1st with Malone serving as Interim until then.
Malone took over for David McLain, who announced in December he would be retiring effective January 31 after nearly 10 years as director.
Prior to becoming Interim Director February 1st, Malone had served as Pre-K and Federal Programs Director for the county schools.
Malone was named Director by a unanimous vote of the School Board at tonight’s meeting.
He will continue to be paid under the current Interim Director contract until the end of June.
Between now and the, School Board Rick Tipton says a three or possibly four year contract will be drawn up between Malone and the school system which will begin July 1st.
