Day 3 Recap

Game 14:  North Greene 66 – South Greene 51

Day 3 of the Andrew Johnson Bank Ladies Classic opened up with a Greene County match-up between South Greene and North Greene.

The Lady Huskies took a slim 15-14 lead after the opening quarter and then outscored the Lady Rebels 23-12 in the second to extend the advantage to 38-26.  Throughout the last two quarters both teams would exchange baskets, solidifying the final outcome 66-61.

Hanna Miller had a double-double (19 points and 13 rebounds) to lead the Lady Huskies’ offense, while Mercy Buchanan chipped in with 15 points.

The Lady Rebels, who were playing without point guard Madison Hensley, were led by Natalie Foshie’s 16 points and Kortnei Bailey’s 13.

South Greene plays Chuckey Doak Monday morning at 9:00am, while North Greene faces off with Morristown West on Tuesday at 9:30am.

Game 15:  Knox Catholic 68 – West Greene 26

The Lady Irish got off to a fast start scoring the first 10 points of the game and cruised to the 68-26 win.

Amaya Redd led the charge with 21 points followed by Sydney English and her 12 points.  The Lady Buffaloes were paced by Joie Shipley’s 12 points and 9 rebounds.

West Greene plays Monday at noon against Riverside, SC, while Catholic takes the court Monday at 3:00 against Greeneville.

Game 16:  J.L. Mann, SC 78 – Daniel Boone 76 (OT)

Fort the second consecutive day, an overtime game was to be played in the 2024 Andrew Johnson Bank Ladies Classic.  The J.L. Mann Lady Patriots battled the Daniel Boone Lady Trailblazers tooth and nail for the entire game.  The Lady Patriots led after one quarter 21-13, but the Lady Blazers closed the gap to 40-36 at the half.

Andrea Flores, who led all scorers with 40 points, took control in the third quarter and pushed the Lady Blazers to a 55-54 lead, only to see the Lady Patriots tie the game at the end of regulation and send the game to the extra period.

In the extra period, both teams battled back and forth, but in the end it was the Lady Patriots taking the win behind Jade Hailstock’s 29 points.  Olivia McKinney and Breah Franks both tallied 16 points each in the win.

Boone will play Monday morning at 10:30am against David Crockett, while J.L. Mann takes the court at 1:30 against Cocke County.

Game 17:  Greeneville 60 – Riverside, SC 54

Greeneville’s Abby Adkins secured a double-double (16 points and 17 rebounds) as the Lady Devils held on to defeat the Riverside Lady Warriors.  Kyla Jobe and Maria Lyde both chipped in with 11 points each in the win.

Trailing by as many as 20 points in the fourth quarter, Maddison Garrido put the Lady Warriors on her back and pulled them to within four at 49-45 late in the fourth quarter.  Garrido finished the game with 19 points, while Elly Trickett poured in 15, which helped her secure 1000 points in her career.

Riverside will play West Greene at noon on Monday, while Greeneville takes on Catholic at 3:00.

Game 18:  Cocke County 63 – David Crockett 60

For the second consecutive day, the Cocke County Lady Red was involved in an intense matchup.  This time it was a nailbiter with the David Crockett Lady Pioneers.

The Lady Pioneers took a commanding 22-10 lead after the first quarter, only to see the Lady Red gradually claw their way back and eventually gain the lead with less than 30 seconds to go in the contest.

Karmine Carmichael led the charge with a double-double (20 points and 16 rebounds), while Blakelyn Clevenger poured in 17 points (including thee trifectas), and Ava Wheeler tallied 11.

Brylee Tullock led the Lady Pioneers with 21 points, followed by Kayleigh Doaner’s 14.

Crockett will face off with county rival Daniel Boone on Monday at 10:30, while Cocke County will play J.L. Mann at 1:30.

Game 19:  Spring Valley, WV 55 – Bearden 49

Spring Valley and Bearden stood off in a back and forth battle for the first three quarters.  The Lady Wolves took a slim 13-11 lead after the first quarter, only to see the Lady Bulldogs flip the script and take a 26-21 lead at the half.  The lead grew to eight after three periods as the Lady Bulldogs outscored their opponents 10-7.

In the fourth quarter alone, the Lady Wolves exceeded their game output and pulled away for the 55-49 win behind Brooklyn Ellis’ 17 points.  Allie Daniels pulled down 15 rebounds and fell one point short of a double-double.

Natalya Hodge pumped in 18 points for the Lady Bulldogs while Kendall Anne Murphy chipped in 12.

Bearden will play Oak Ridge Monday at 4:30, while Spring Valley plays Marist at 7:30 in semi-final action.

Game 20:  Spring Garden, AL 51 – Upperman 38

After a deadlocked first period, the rest of the game belonged to Spring Garden.  The Lady Panthers would outscore the Lady Bees 43-30 the rest of the way.

The Lady Panthers were led by Maggie Jarrett’s 20 points, followed by Ace Austin’s 10.  Korra Bass and Taylor Dolente both tallied 10 points for the Lady Bees.

Upperman will play Farmington, AK Monday at 6:00, while Spring Garden will play Webb at 7:30 in semi-final action.

Game 22:  Marist, GA 60, Oak Ridge 57

Marist, last years’ Ladies Classic champion, and Oak Ridge squared off in a classic match-up and it did nothing to disappoint those in attendance.

Both teams scored 17 points in the first quarter and the Lady Wildcats claimed a two-point advantage at the half 31-29.  The lead would stretch to four points (49-45) after three.

It would be then that Kate Harpering would take matters into her own hands and score 11 of her team’s 15 points in the fourth and push the Lady War Eagles to the 60-57 win.  She finished the game with her second consecutive double-double (35 points and 15 rebounds).  Katie Elder provided her assistance with 15 points and 9 rebounds (1 short of her own double-double).

Ze’Yana Stewart scored 21 points for the Lady Wildcats, while Ayana Porter finished with 17 and Euleesha Mitchell 16.

Oak Ridge faces Bearden at 4:30 on Monday, while Marist squares off with Spring Valley in semi-final action at 7:30.

Game 23:  Webb 58 – Farmington, AK 54

The final game of day 3 did not disappoint those that were in attendance as Webb School of Knoxville and Farmington, AK played nip and tuck from the opening tap to the final buzzer.

The Lady Cardinals took a 15-13 lead after the first quarter and then extended it to 33-23 at the half.  The Lady Spartans, behind Cailyn Taylor and Meeyah Green cut the deficit to 44-41.

Green continued to pump in the points as she made the difference in the fourth, scoring 7 of her team high 19 to secure the win.  She also finished with 10 rebounds, completing a double-double.  Zahnyah Rockett and Kyndall Mays both secured 12 points in the win.

Easton McCollough led the Lady Cardinals with 16 points, followed by Kaycee McCumber’s 15.

Farmington plays Upperman at 6:00, while Webb squares off with Spring Garden, AL at 9:00 in semi-final action.
