By the end of the year , 42 of the 49 routes across northeast Tennessee roadways should be reopened.
That word came Thursday from TDOT, as they issued their weekly East Tennessee Road Construction update.
TDOT Communication Officer Mark Nagi says the main issues remain the Kinser Bridge on Highway 107 in Greene County and State Route 81 in Washington County where the bridges were washed away during the September flooding.
Work is underway to build those bridges back up, through the progressive design-build project. That contract allowed TDOT to get moving on those projects much quicker than under normal circumstances.
Weather permitting, he says both bridges are still expected to be completed by this coming summer.
Road work continues on I-26 in Erwin, but only one lane of traffic is open in both directions temporarily.
