The Greene County Commission pulled an item from the agenda Monday night regarding the North Greene Utilities.
Customers of the utility agreed Saturday they did not want to come under control of the county, rather remain as is, and try to work out system and money issues themselves.
Greene County Mayor Kevin Morrison says that around 5,000 citizens, roughly 2,300-2,400 households, are served by North Greene Utilities.
Since the customer group decided to appoint a new board for the utility rather than turning it over to the county’s control, the resolution to absorb the district was removed from Monday night’s commission agenda.
Morrison says five new board members will work to fix the list of problems the utility is facing.
Jason Crawford, Chad Harmon, Mark Klepper, Chris Stone and Brad Tucker make up the new person committee.
County Commission Kathy Crawford represents Baileyton on the commission. She told Radio Greeneville News last night “I support Greene County government, I also support Baileyton, the Utility District. There’s been some mistakes made but we’ll take care of them.
Morrison says he’s hoping for the best for the utility but the county is there if needed. “We’re certainly praying for them, that everything will turn out very well for North Greene Utilities and the customers out there. Our interests , our only interests, is to make sure that everybody has good reliable water service that wants it.
