Both Greene County and Greeneville City Schools will reopen for students on Tuesday, and special efforts will be made to supply water as long as the boil advisory remains in effect.
Monday will be an administrative day in both systems, with students returning on Tuesday.
City Director of Schools Steve Starnes and County Director David McLain both said that the system will provide bottled water for students each day until the boil advisory is lifted. The system will also be following the Health Department Guidelines for food service establishments, and school cafeterias will be able to safely provide both breakfast and lunch each day.
Starnes added that the dismissal of schools for seven days because of Hurricane Helene have depleted the city’s “snow days” for the year. Starnes said that the Commissioner of Education may waive the minimum number of days requirement for attendance. Starnes said that waiver could add the seven “snow days” back into the schedule without having to make them up.
