The latest scam in the neighborhood is someone reportedly pretending to be your local church Pastor. The scammer is somehow getting access to the victim’s phone contacts and is asking people for apple gift cards to help cancer patients.
This isn’t a new scam but it might be new to you. Several communities have received this same type of message from someone claiming to be their church Pastor, including people who attend First Presbyterian Church. The scammer’s message is getting sent to the entire congregation.
Remember to never give out your personal information. Be sure to always check the number that is calling or texting you. The safest bet is to not answer the phone if it’s a number you don’t recognize and to not reply to the message. However, it’s important to keep in mind that the call or text may come through with a name that you know. If it sounds suspicious, it most likely is.
