An Afton man was arrested Friday evening after reportedly shooting at his neighbor’s house six times. Deputies responded to the scene on the 900 block of Justice Road and found the victim hiding under his porch.
The man called 911 around 6:15 PM on Friday and said that Billy Surrett shot at his house six times. The Greene County Sheriff’s Department and other units arrived at the property and set up a perimeter around the suspect’s house. The victim was instructed to stay behind the deputies’ vehicles.
Deputies said several verbal attempts and a phone call were made to get Surrett out of his home but each was unsuccessful. According to the report, he came out a few minutes later with his pit bull on a leash as he carried a samurai sword and hatchet. He allegedly refused to drop his weapons and tie up his dog, but eventually did comply.
While deputies were arresting him, he reportedly resisted and was taken to the ground. Deputies administered a drive stun to his upper back as he allegedly continued to resist and he was then placed into handcuffs.
According to the victim, he was watching TV when he heard gunshots and saw Surrett standing at the back door. The report states there were no signs of the house being shot at or shell casings on the ground. There were however several fresh indentions on the back door with paint missing. When examining the hatchet, paint matching the back door could be seen.
