Greeneville City Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Tipton as the new Assistant Director of Schools for Curriculum and Instruction. Richard’s deep-rooted passion for education, coupled with his extensive experience, assures us that he is qualified to lead the district in innovative instructional strategies and curriculum development to continue improving the academic experience for students.
In his new role, Richard will oversee all teaching and learning aspects of the district, collaborating closely with teachers and the instructional staff within the district to grow and enhance educational outcomes.
Richard’s extensive background in education spans all grade levels of the school system. He has taught math at the middle and high school levels, served as an Instructional Specialist for grades 6-12, and served as interim assistant principal at Greeneville High School during the 2019-2020 school year.
Richard most recently was the Principal of Tennessee Online Public School at Greeneville, where he built and launched the online school for grades K-5. These previous roles have given Richard a comprehensive understanding of education at all grade levels. His past achievements include the school system’s Excellence in Technology Award in 2020 and the district’s Excellence in Professional Learning Award in 2015.

Richard will be replacing Dr. Suzanne Bryant who is retiring after serving as the Assistant Director for Curriculum and Instruction for the past 14 years. Director of Schools, Steve Starnes, stated “I want to thank Suzanne for her amazing passion for students and the numerous ways she has contributed to Greeneville City Schools’ academic success. We wish her health, happiness, and much enjoyment in her retirement.”
