Mark Russell is pleased to announce that American/Canadian glass artist, John Krizan, will be working in an art residency program at the Firehall Studio, Greeneville, TN during May.
Krizan’s residency is made possible by being awarded the Individual Artist Grant from the Edmonton Arts Council, Edmonton, AB, Canada.
Also visiting is Canadian glass artist Jill Allan. Ms Allan will be exploring various glass forms, including assembled coil forms, and with murrine/millefiori techniques.
John Krizan grew up in Iowa and Georgia surrounded by agricultural fields and geologic formations of the mid-west that inform his designs in glass. He is currently inspired by the new and unique colors and forms as a permanent resident of Edmonton, Canada. Patterns are important features in his work, using color in a way that accentuates the object. John often uses colors that will react chemically with each other to produce exciting, mysterious, and unpredictable surfaces.
John continues to have an active studio practice, designing and producing his own blown, sculptural, and kiln worked glass objects and installations and also teaching continuing education glassblowing classes, glass kiln-working and cold-working workshops.
During the residency, Krizan will have access to the hot shop to build and develop his existing glass series while experimenting with new techniques, surface patterns, and forms. In addition to creative work, there will be experimentation in glass chemistry and color batch formulations using the studio’s multi pot color furnace.
