UPDATE: According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol Preliminary Report, the driver of the 2006 Toyota Corolla was Christopher K. Moir, Jr. who was later arrested and taken to the Greene County Detention Center. The specific charges were not listed at the time of the report.
Two people were injured when their car struck a tree on the Houston Valley Rd., Saturday afternoon. The tree penetrated all the way through the car and came out the back windshield. The accident happened around 3:45 PM in the 4300 block of the Houston Valley Road.
South Greene Volunteer Fire Chief David Weems said that upon arrival, firefighters found a single vehicle crash with two occupants inside the car. The vehicle appeared to have left the roadway, striking a fallen tree along an embankment. The end of the tree had entered the windshield of the vehicle and was protruding through the left rear door of the vehicle.
Firefighters used a hydraulic spreader to open the drivers’ door of the vehicle to allow the patient to exit. EMS transported the driver to a local hospital with apparent minor injuries. A juvenile passenger appeared to be uninjured.
Members of the South Greene Volunteer Fire Department, EMS, Greeneville Emergency and Rescue Squad, Greene County Sheriffs Department, and Tennessee High Patrol responded.
