The Greeneville City Council will meet this afternoon and will consider approving playground improvements at the George Clem Center, multiple special events applications, the purchase of rifles for Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.) team for the Greeneville Police Department, and the rezoning of nine parcels of land.
According to the agenda, the playground improvements at George Clem would cost about $50,000 and be given to the Parks and Recreation Department. Improvements include the paving of existing courts, a new six foot coated fence, new swings, a new playground set, and new basketball goals.
Special event permits are issued to allow street closures, use of public space and of City services for public events. The following include Special Event requests on the agenda:

Many other items will be considered during the city council meeting like the reappointments to several boards and a joint venture agreement pertaining to the Greeneville/Greene solid waste transfer station, active class III demolition landfill, and inactive class I and class IV landfills.
Further more, there will be presentations from 2023-2024 Town of Greeneville Youth Commission members. The meeting will be held at 4 PM this afternoon in the G. Thomas Love Board Room at the Greeneville Energy Authority Building, located on 110 North College Street.
