Two people were injured in a wreck around 9:00 this morning in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 in Greene County.
The wreck occurred around mile marker 18 when a Kia Soul driven by 25-year-old Bianca Lentz reportedly failed to keep in its proper lane and changed lanes, striking a Ford F350 driven by 19-year-old Dylan Strickler in the side. Both vehicles lost control. Lentz’s car went through the median, over an embankment, and came to an uncontrolled final rest on the northbound side of the interstate in a ditch. Strickler’s truck came to an uncontrolled final rest on the right side of the southbound lanes in a ditch. The truck lost its load as a result of the crash.
Lentz and a two-year-old passenger were injured in the wreck. Strickler and a passenger, 34-year-old Matthew Edwards, were not injured.
According to the accident report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Lentz is facing charges of failure to exercise due care, violation of the open container law, and no insurance. She will also be charged due to not having the two-year-old in proper child restraints in the car.
The southbound lanes of Interstate 81 where the wreck occurred were closed through the morning as the investigation and cleanup took place.
