According to a press release issued today by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded first to an aggravated assault on Richard Alan Court late Tuesday night. 28-year-old Gabriel Barnett reportedly assaulted a resident and fled the scene. Deputies then responded to the 900 block of Bowmantown Road, where Barnett had forced open the back door of a residence around midnight and allegedly murdered his father, 61-year-old Jeffrey Barnett. He then knocked on the front door of his mother’s residence next door. She let him in and he reportedly attacked his step-father, Christopher Good, who was in bed at the time. Good is being treated for his injuries at a local hospital.
Barnett was located walking down Telford Road Wednesday afternoon and was taken into custody. He is charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated domestic assault and aggravated burglary. He is being held without bond.
