The Greeneville City Council approved an extension to Summers Taylor for the Depot Street project with the intent to completely finish the project by March of this year.
Project Manager Ryan Henley and Construction Engineer Cassy Goldston from JMT, (Johnson, Mirmiran and Thompson) gave a summary of the timeline for the construction project , which first started in August of 2021. Now, almost three years later the project will be coming to an end soon but some work still has to be done.
According to JMT, some work has to wait until the weather gets warmer. A supplemental request by JMT was approved as part of that extension for additional engineering services on Depot Street. Work in the next month or so involves the installation of concrete pipe. JMT says there were delays with deliveries because of supply chain issues with the concrete pipe and items like rebar. Additional work includes adding drainage structures, redesigns, adjustments of sewer manhole lids, improvements on College Street for ADA access, and some wall repairs.
Council member Scott Bullington had a list of around 15 items that needed to be addressed. All were brought up in the last six months. Bullington said it was mostly just phone calls from people who were out and about and would notice something that raised some type of concern. Construction Engineer Goldston responded that there would be a future meeting where those items could be discussed in further detail.
Over all, City Manager Todd Smith says the Depot Street project is not only on time with its completion goal but it also came in under budget. JMT said the town saved around $878,000.
