The Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development reported this afternoon Greene County’s unemployment rate in July was 4.6 percent, down slightly from 4.7 percent in June.
Greene County’s rate a year ago was 4.4 percent.
The unemployment rate for July 2023 decreased in 79 Tennessee counties, increased in 10 counties, and remained the same in six counties. A total of 81 counties had unemployment rates below 5 percent. Williamson, Cheatham, Sevier and Moore counties all had the lowest July unemployment rates at 2.7 percent, while Bledsoe County had the highest rate at 6.2 percent.
The state unemployment rate for July was 3.1 percent, which was the lowest seasonally adjusted unemployment rate since the federal government began tracking jobless numbers in 1976. Tennessee’s previous all-time low rate was 3.2 percent.
