The Greeneville/Greene County Public Library hosted an exciting Summer Reading Kickoff event on May 30th, which saw an impressive turnout of more than a hundred enthusiastic children.

The event, part of the All Together Now Summer Reading Program, proved to be an engaging and fun-filled experience for all attendees.

Highlighting the importance of “Community Connections,” the Summer Reading Kickoff brought together various community organizations and public service providers. One of the event’s major attractions was the presence of the Greeneville Fire Department, who showcased their support by bringing a fire truck on-site. Participants were invited to climb into the fire truck and sound its horn, creating an unforgettable experience.

In addition to the fire truck, the Greeneville Police Department also participated in the event, showcasing their commitment to community engagement. Police officers showed the young participants around their cruisers, fostering positive interactions and promoting a sense of trust and cooperation between law enforcement and the community.

The Summer Reading Kickoff also featured a Storytime corner where captivating tales were shared, transporting children to imaginative worlds and encouraging their literary aspirations. Snacks were provided to keep the young readers energized throughout the event, ensuring a delightful experience for all.

At the craft table, participants had the opportunity to showcase their creativity by making thoughtful cards which will be delivered to senior centers in the area, spreading joy and creating connections across generations.

Following the success of the Summer Reading Kickoff, the Greeneville/Greene County Public Library is keeping the fun going for four more summer reading events. These events will take place on Tuesday mornings from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM throughout the month of June. Next week’s theme is “Expand Your World,” and will have even more fun guests and activities. Families and individuals who are interested in participating can still register at ggcpl.readsquared.com.

The Greeneville/Greene County Public Library would like to extend its sincere gratitude to Isaiah 117 House, Greene County Save the Children, the Greeneville Fire Department, and the Greeneville Police Department for their invaluable contributions to the Summer Reading Kickoff. The event’s success was made possible by the collaborative efforts of these organizations and all the volunteers who manned stations and read stories and helped keep things running smoothly.
