Several under the influence arrests were made over the past couple days including a man from Greeneville who was involved in a motor vehicle accident on Craft Lane.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Department responded about 2:30 AM on Saturday after his vehicle’s alert system notified dispatch of the crash. Dispatch reportedly advised the man was either elderly or intoxicated. The vehicle was found in a ditch with the suspect standing near. He stated he was driving on Haney Hill Road and made a left on Craft Lane, but was unsure how he crashed into the ditch. Tests were performed and it was determined the crash was caused due to the suspect driving under the influence.
Bystanders spoke with the Greeneville Police Department Sunday evening and advised that a male appeared intoxicated at Walmart on 3755 East Andrew Johnson Highway. His vehicle was found in the parking lot with no license plate and the trunk door open. The Johnson City man was seen exiting Walmart with a cart of items that were later confirmed to be stolen. According to the report, he stated he consumed alcohol and took Suboxone, then later stated it was Valium. He was arrested and was found to have a warrant from Florida.
Another man was arrested Sunday night after a welfare check at Papa Johns on 1315 East Andrew Johnson Highway. The Greeneville man was seen almost falling to the ground as the Police Department arrived. Employees inside the store stated he seemed normal when he first arrived but his behavior seemed to worsen as time passed. According to the report, he was confused, unsteady on his feet, and made erratic movements. He was determined to be a danger to himself and others and placed under arrest.
A search was made and found was a container with numerous pills inside, a used syringe with a liquid inside it, and more including a dog in the vehicle. Animal Control was called to the scene and took custody of the dog. The man was transported to the Greene County Detention Center and given multiple charges including public intoxication, possession of drug paraphernalia, four counts of possession of schedule four, and possession of schedule two. The drugs recovered were believed to include 1.5 units of Clonazepam, .25 units of Xanax, 4.5 units of Tizanidine Hydrochloride, and a substance believed to be Methamphetamine.
