The Tusculum University men’s and women’s basketball teams visit Coker University today for a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader.
The Tusculum women (15-3, 6-2 SAC) return to the court this afternoon after a 54-52 victory over Wingate last Saturday, in which the Bulldogs had three chances for a tying basket in the final seconds but came up short.
The Cobras (5-11) fell to 0-8 in the SAC with a 66-61 loss at Anderson on Wednesday evening. Coker opened the year at 3-0 with wins over UNC Pembroke (63-51), Francis Marion (68-62) and Barton (65-45), but the Cobras have dropped 11 of 13 since then while going 0-6 at home.
The Tusculum men (9-6, 5-3 SAC) will be looking to get back on the winning side of things this weekend after last Saturday’s 79-72 home loss to Wingate. In that game, Tusculum overcame a pair of huge deficits in the second half, but could not complete the comeback as TU suffered its second home loss of the season.
Coker has emerged as one of the big surprises of the season as the Cobras are 10-8 overall and are in third place in the SAC Piedmont Division with a 4-4 league worksheet. Coker is coming off a disappointing 86-69 road loss at Anderson on Wednesday. Freshman Mahmoud Bangura led the Cobras with a season-high 21 points while Jordan Jones added 18 markers.
Coverage begins at 1:45 PM with tipoff for the women at 2:00 PM and the men at 4:00 PM. Brian Stayton will have the call on Jewel 95.5 FM or online at jewel955.com/listenlive.
