A Greeneville man was arrested on numerous drug charges following a traffic stop on Wednesday evening.
A deputy with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department spotted a vehicle driven by Anthony Southerland of Poplar Springs Road around 6:45 PM speeding and crossing over the centerline.
The tag came back to a different vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated and Southerland attempted to back up into a driveway. The vehicle backed up a few times, but the deputy continued to block Southerland. He then got around the deputy and traveled back onto the road, heading inbound on Newport Highway and cutting off other traffic and refusing to stop.
When Southerland turned onto North Massengill Road, he threw a bag out into the roadway. The vehicle came to a stop in the 200 block of North Massengill Road. Southerland was placed into the back of the patrol car so the evidence could be recovered.
The bag contained meth, numerous pills, including Viagra and Suboxone, cut straws, and pipes. Inside the car, deputies discovered marijuana, a grinder, a cooler containing an open bottle of liquor, and around $520 in cash.
Southerland performed poorly on field sobriety tests at the Greene County Detention Center and refused consent for a blood draw.
He was charged with the manufacture, delivery, sale or possession of meth, simple possession of schedule 3, 4 and 6 drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, DUI 2nd offense, evading arrest, tampering with evidence, violation of the open container law, reckless driving, and violation of implied consent.
