Former member Ginny Kidwell is once again serving on the Greeneville Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
Kidwell was sworn in during Tuesday’s meeting to fill the vacant alderman seat for the unexpired term of Cal Doty. Kidwell, who previously served on the board for 10 years, was approved at the last regular meeting to fill the seat. Doty announced his resignation last month from the board due to his change of residency outside the 1st ward.
The board approved the recommendation for Tim Teague to serve on the Greeneville Energy Authority Board of Directors.
A spending plan was approved for the Greeneville Water Commission for $2.3 million in American Rescue Plan grant funds. The plan consists of the purchase of a generator for around $1 million for the water treatment facility on Buckingham Road and a sewer rehabilitation project to replace numerous lines that are breaking down.
A $740,000 bid for construction of a parking lot on Crowfoot Alley was approved by the board. The estimate for the project was $611,000, but the bid was higher due to the increase in the cost of materials.
The board tabled a city maintenance agreement with TDOT. Public Works Director Brad Peters said TDOT has increased the rates for mowing and litter pickup. The board then discussed staffing shortage issues the department has been facing and the need to budget a pay increase for Public Works employees.
The reappointments of Bill Brown, Don Sexton and Noah Young to the Greeneville Historic Zoning Commission were approved. The board also approved the appointments of Paige Mengel, Cal Doty and David Durant to the Greeneville Municipal Planning Commission.
Kidwell was approved as the board representative on the Greeneville Municipal Planning Commission and Greene County EMS Board. Kristin Girton was approved as the representative for the Greeneville Historic Zoning Commission.
